THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AND READING COMPREHENSION
Abstract
This study aimed to identify whether there is Correlation between Students
Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension at SMP Negeri 4 Samarinda. The
population of the research was the students of the eight grade at SMP Negeri 4
Samarinda in Academic Year 2022/2023 with the total number of population being
24 Students. This research uses quantitative methods. By using a Test Vocabulary
and Test Reading Comprehension. The study used the coefficient of pearson
product moment computation in SPSS to assess the relation between students'
vocabulary mastery and Reading Comprehension. The significant value was 0.005
≤ 0.005, indicating that there was a relation among vocabulary competency and
descriptive reading ability among the students. according to the data. 0.557 is the
value of the correlation coefficient. It ranges from 0.005-0.005. It is clear that there
is a strong degree of relevance relationship. The correlation test gave a score of
0.557, indicating a high level of correlation. The researcher discovered a positive
relationship between students' vocabulary competence and descriptive reading
ability in the eight grade in SMP Negeri 4 Samarinda.
