Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe students’ perceptions towards the use of Kahoot application as one of media learning to increase their motivation. This research conducted qualitative descriptive method, case study. The subjects of this research are students from the English Education Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur (UMKT) who share certain characteristics. This research conducted semi-structured interviews in order to know how students’ perception on the use of Kahoot for their learning extrinsic motivation. The result shows that Kahoot provided many positive effects towards the students’ learning. It is found that the students perceived Kahoot as an interesting online game-based learning platform that improved their knowledge, as well as boosts their motivation and enthusiasm which leads to active learning. Moreover, this study found the challenges that the students experienced while using Kahoot, such as anxiety due to the time limitation, poor internet connection and cheating activities.
