The impact of kahoot-based formative assessment on student learning outcomes at a Junior High School in Samarinda
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate how student learning outcomes at SMPN 22
Samarinda are affected by the use of Kahoot! as a formative assessment tool in English
learning. Pre- and post-test measures were part of the quasi-experimental design utilized in
the research methodology. The experimental group was designated as Class VII-7 B, and
they were administered a pre-intervention test prior to utilizing Kahoot! as well as a post
intervention test following their use of Kahoot! Thirty-seven students who took an active
part in the study provided data. According to the findings, using Kahoot! greatly enhanced
students' comprehension of English grammatical resources, especially when it came to the
subject of tenses (my schoolwork). The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)
software was used for data analysis, and an independent sample t-test was used to compare
mean scores. The study showed a significant improvement in post-test results when
comparing student performance before and after using Kahoot! After Kahoot! was
implemented, statistical analysis showed a significant increase in student achievement,
indicating a beneficial effect on learning outcomes. This research highlights how important
it is to incorporate technology into the classroom, such as Kahoot!, to create a dynamic and
engaging learning environment. The research also makes recommendations for future
research to examine the wider implications and potential of Kahoot! in education, as well as
methods for teachers to creatively use the platform's capabilities and motivate students to
actively participate.
